Counselling & Psychotherapy in Somerset & Devon

FAQs

How are counselling and psychotherapy different?

Both are talking therapies, counselling may be briefer, providing a listening space, while psychotherapy may be longer and involve deeper exploration of the past and of emotional or behavioural patterns.

What happens in the initial session?

If you choose to book a session after the introductory call, the first session involves exploring what you want to look at, it is a chance for you to get a feel for how I work, and to decide if it is right for you.

Will you give me advice?

No, I am here to work with you and support you, while you uncover your own solutions. I can sign post you towards specific help or contacts.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your situation, everyone has their own requirements, some people come for a few sessions, others for longer-term open-ended work. We’ll check in regularly about how it is going and what you need.

Will I be able to return to counselling if necessary?

Yes, absolutely, as long as I have space, I will be happy to schedule sessions in, sometimes a single session can be all that is needed.
